Maia Cruz Palileo makes animations, sculptures and drawings. Each drawing, while referring to a specific memory, functions as a brand new version of the account. The central figure (often her Mom or her best friend Sam- both have passed away) can be seen doing something quotidian like smoking, driving, eating, or praying. Pinning down a memory through drawing is such a fascinating exercise. I can tell these drawings aren’t from photographs because of how straight up weird they get. I love them.

straight up weird! and awesome.
I do love the woman writing, and the woman on the table. It feels as if these people were really seen and important.
