bruce bickford
This past Monday I had the chance to see a screening of Monster Road, a documentary directed by Brett Ingram about the eccentric animator, Bruce Bickford. Bickford’s most popular work came in the mid-70s/early-80s doing music videos and short-films with Frank Zappa. See “Baby Snakes“. Surprisingly, the film focused not so much on Bickford’s work,… Continue reading bruce bickford
JOAN MITCHELL
Cheim & Read has an exhibit of Joan Mitchell’s paintings opening tomorrow night through January 4. I am an art teacher through the Joan Mitchell Foundation. It’s truly the best job. Considering that I benefit directly from her estate, it means a lot to me to see her work in person.
PEPIN PRESS
I came across these books last night. They are part of the new PEPIN Fashion, Textiles & Patterns series. Each book includes illustrations and photographs, technical details, flat patterns, reproductions of fabric designs, and a cd of ready to use files. European Folk was by far the best.

DANE PATTERSON
Dane Patterson is my friend with the truly special, enviable drawing skills. What makes his work extraordinary are his strange and incredible compositions. His upcoming show, “Again, and again, and again” opens November 4 from 6-8pm at The Proposition Gallery.
NILS ERICSON
Nils Ericson is a photographer who relies on the framework of friends, family, and landscapes to express the dichotomy of life and these dichotomies’ interconnectedness: static (frozen moments, the essence of photographs) versus dynamic (the body in space, aging) and ephemeral (time, weather, the search for feeling) versus permanent (what’s true and given). Nils is… Continue reading NILS ERICSON

ROMARE BEARDEN
I spent the morning at the MET and was reminded about how awesome Romare Bearden’s collages are. The color and scale make them feel really current. This past September he would have been 100 years old. There is a centennial tribute happening. It’s a great opportunity to learn about this incredible individual.
